Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (October 2, 1869 – January 30, 1948) was a major political and spiritual leader of India and the Indian independence movement. In India, he is recognized as the Father of the Nation. October 2nd, his birthday, is commemorated each year as Gandhi Jayanti, and is a national holiday. He was the Mahatma- the great soul- whose sacred glimpse was a rewa rd in itself. "Generations to come, it may be", Einstein had said of Gandhi in July 1944, "will scarcely believe that such one as this ever in flesh and blood walked upon earth." Gandhi ji favorite bhajan was “Ishwar Allah Tero Naam, sabko sanmati de Bhagwan ,” it still brings soothes in ears. The same version, sung by Mohammad Rafi, played on several television channels today.
