Janmashtmi
Janmashtmi comes in the month of sharavana. It is a eighth day of month when lord Krishna birth take place in the avatar of lord Vishnu. It is an important day for Hindus. Lord Sri Krishna was born on the 'Rohini' nakshatram (star). Sri Krishna was born on a dark, stormy and windy night to end the rule and atrocities of his maternal uncle, Kansa. it is only at midnight between the first and the second day that birth of Sri Krishna took place. The actual festivities begin during midnight in this 48 hour period. The festival of janmashtami is considered very pious day by hindus.
In 2010, the date of Janmashtami and North India is September 2 and in other parts it is on September1.The Smarta Tradition observes the festival on September 1 and the Vaishnava Tradition on September 2. The idol of lord is bathed with Panchamrit (A mixture of milk, ghee, oil, honey and Gangajal). The Panchamrit is later distributed as Prasad to the devotees along with other sweets. While some Fast on the first day and break it at midnight for others the fasting continues for both days. Lot of bhajan kirtan hyms chanting and pooja are performed on this day. Devotees visit temples to seek the blessing of lordkishna. A good way is to recite the 108 names of lord Krishna.

Total solar eclipse –poorn surya grahan
It is that time of the year when eclipse occur. We just saw a Chandra ghrahan and now it is being followed by a surya grahan. The Chandra grahan which took place was not of much importance and so is this surya grahan, this surya graham is going to be a total solar eclipse. It has not been given much importance even in our vedic panchang as it is nowhere near us when its happening and we in india wont be able to see it. It timing are going to be from 23:45:00 hrs on July 11, 2010 to 02:20:00 on July 12, 2010.
It is of not much importance but still as now days in metros people working in night shifts so they can recite the following mantra during the surya graham time Ashtakshara mantra is ‘Shri Krishna ha sharnam mama.’ Pregnant ladies should take care of them self and on the next morning ie 12th july 2010 you can take a holy dip , recite mantra and do puja early in the morning to purify yourself.

Its time for a partial lunar eclipse in our part of the world. chandra grahan timing in india will start from 15.46 pm to 18.30 pm IST on 26th june 2010. it will be visible in the eastern most part of india.As per science its the alingment of earth, sun and moon in a line so that moon gets eclipsed. as per hindu mythology its the work of rahu who is enimical to both moon and sun. ekadasi on 22nd june 2010
ekadasi fast is an important fast as per hindu tradition and is followed all over . Thier are 24 ekadasi in an year, two in each month so 24 in total. This ekadasi falling in the month of during the waxing phase of moon in the month of Jyestha (May – June)is of great significance and importance is also called Bhim ekadasi or pandav ekadasi . It was adviced to bhim by sage vyas as he wanted to keep one fast out of all the 24 ekadasi. so this ekadasi has the benefits of all the 24 ekadasi.
People who cannot keep fast on all 24 ekadasi and want to keep one fast are adviced to keep this ekadasi fast. This ekadasi fast is called NIRJALA EKADASI as it is kept without taking a drop of water also and it continues for total 24 hrs from sunrise on the 22nd to the next morning.
best is to keep yourself clean ,pure in mind and heart, do some prayers to connect to GOD. It is kept for lord VISHNU. so you should prepare a panchamrit and arpit it to lord vishnu to get his blessing . People who keep this difficult fast get desired benefits and also get relief from thier past sins.
